Abat-Voix
2013
Site specific sound installation, 23 min
The Cube at Old Market Square.
Winnipeg Manitoba
ABAT-VOIX is a multi-voice drone piece composed as a site specific sound installation for Send & Receive Festival of Sound. Named after canopies once built above the pulpit in Catholic churches to amplify the voice of a priest, ABAT-VOIX is constructed with individual voices singing along with pure sine waves. Conceived of in the tradition of vocal lamentation, the piece played everyday at noon in a public space undergoing rapid development and gentrification. Thanks to vocalists José Luis Íñiguez, Anysa Saleh, Irina Contreras, Daniel Bouthot, and Marissa Bergman.
